Assignment # 8 - The Real Riel

Louis Riel was a person you would either think of him as a saviour or a traitor. He was a Canadian Publican a founder of the province of Manitoba, and leader of the Metis people of the Canadian Prairies. I think Louis Riel was a saviour because he helped form our country and cared for his people.

Louis
Riel : Hi and thanks its a pleasure being here

Lindsay : So like have you noticed that there is a national day called Louise Riel Day celebrated in Manitoba in the memory of you?

Louis Riel : Yes i have noticed that and i think it means allot to me that people look up to me as a hero and respect me for what i did.

Lindsay : do you ever regret of killing Thomas Scott?

Louis Riel : well not exactly regret but i would probably think twice again about actually killing Thomas Scott even though he was a very bad, violent, and racist man he kinda deserved to be killed

Lindsay : OK what i notice that some people look at you as a traitor or a hero what do u think about that?

Louis Riel : Well i feel that everyone is entitled to there own opinion about me but i know that i am definitely not a traitor what i did was stuck up for not just myself but for my people and my beliefs. Which is who i wanted to be and what i wanted to do.

Lindsay : well i definitely think of you as a hero not a traitor.

Louis Riel : why thank you.

Lindsay : your welcome.

Lindsay: when you got hung how did it feel and what was the last thing that went though your mind?

Louis Riel : well it hurt allot obviously and trust me definitely a horrible way to die and of course the last thing that went through my mind was my family of how much i will miss them.

Assignment # 7- Canadian Personalities

For this assignment we have to answer questions about Canadian personalities which is on this link.

and click here to view the assignment #7

1.The Category I found the best was we Fought because I found it had the most interesting people and its about people who fought for rights and stand up for what the believe in to make Canada a better place which I find those people are very awesome.

2. The personality I found the most interesting was the feminist Nellie McClung because she became a teacher only at the age 16. That's just amazing! She also wrote a bestselling novel, which gave her fame and inspired many women for the cause. and the best thing she did was helped win the vote for Canadian women and was herself elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta In 1929. She was known as one of the famous five who demanded that women be legally recognized as people! I found her an amazing person because if it wasn't for her women still wouldn't have rights that men do and life would be harder, boring, and unfair.

3. three more influential Canadian personalities that i think could be added to that site, a) one of them would be Henry Kelsey. He was a great explorer. He discovered the Canadian prairies. he was good linguist and robust traveller. He respected the Indians and was benign and humane in his relations with all native peoples. I think he would go in the category We built because of what he did.

b) I also think that Lady Helena E. Squires should be there because shes was a remarkable woman who was a social activist who worked to found a teachers college and a maternity hospital, She was the first woman elected to the Newfoundland House of Assembly and when Confederation entered Newfoundland in 1949 She was elected the first president of the provincial Liberal Association. I think she would be in the category we governed or we fought because she did both of those things.
c) Last I think Roald Amundsen should be on that site to because. he was the first person to fly over the North Pole in a dirigible and the first person to reach the South Pole. He also died in a plane crash attempting to rescue his friend. That means he was a good person because he tried saving his friend which risked his life and i think its pretty cool that he was the first person to reach both the North and South Poles. I think Roald Amundsen should be in the category We Build.
4. My history match maker was Pierre Elliott Trudeau I was able to figure out who he was by the last question. the things we have in common are we both have a birthday in October. we both speak English. we both have nick names. the things we don't have in common are his birthday is on the 18 and mine is on the 15, he was born in Montreal, Quebec and i was born in Ottawa, Ontario. and we both like different kinds of sports.

5. One hundred years from now (in 2109!) and students are learning about Canadian History Makers and they discover me. I would like to be remembered as a person who found a cure for cancer. and this is what will happen.

I'm a nurse and in the hospital I work in there seem to be allot of people who are getting diagnosed with cancer and this cancer thing has been going on time to time and no one has found a cure for it and I decided that i would like to try and help cure for this cancer even if no one has done it. I believed that I could be the very first person to find a way to cure it. So what i did was studied and studied and I couldn't seem to get anywhere and I just about gave up that day and started walking home and suddenly I saw this very strange creature it looked kinda like a frog but it was the colour purple and had pink stripes did i just discover a new species? to make sure it wasn't dangerous I picked it up with plastic gloves on and put it in a container. I looked up the Internet to see if there is really this type of frog hopping around and I even looked in books about frogs, and there seems to be no type of frog that's purple with pink strips. Then unfortunately the frog died in two days but it did lay eggs it lay ed about 7000 eggs and what I did with the frog was experiment on it a little I found out that it had a type of poison in it that didn't seem much of a bad poison and I experimented on it allot to see if this could this help cure cancer and I talked to the nurses in the hospital at first they thought it was crazy then eventually they gave in to it and one of our people in the hospital with cancer was 70 years old and the oldest person in the hospital with cancer, her name was Sally Smith she was a very kind lady and we asked her if she would like to try this and it was the only chance she had to surviving and if it works out she could be very famous and wealthy. So she said she loved to and we did it and guess what happened? It worked! That was the cure for cancer and she lived till she was 97 in her sleep. I would like to thank Sally Smith and the nurses who helped me with this i couldn't have done it with out them!

Assignment #6- Black History Month

For this assignment we are suppose to pick a African-Canadian Person and describe who he/she is and what contribution they made to the Canadian society and i picked a woman named Rose Fortune. Rose had a very big personality. She was quite short, wore a man’s hat, frock coat, a dress, apron and men’s boots and she was the first known female officer in Canada. At a time when neither women nor black people were encouraged to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. She operated her own business transporting goods for people in Annapolis Royal. Her family settled in the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia, which was a popular destination for black Loyalists and She worked there as a baggage carrier, transporting luggage and provisions from ships, which she would deliver in her wheelbarrow and Later on she implemented a rudimentary "wake-up call" service in which she would alert people at nearby inns in danger of missing departing ships. As you can see she was a very special person back then, in fact she still is. The Association of Black Law Enforcers have created a scholarship in her name. Rose Fortune's legacy continues today. Check out these sites if you want to know more cool things about Rose http://http://section15.ca/features/people/1998/07/17/rose_fortune/ or http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/index.cfm?PgNm=TCE&Params=A1ARTA0009868

Assignment #5 It's Really Cold

Allot of immigrants decided to leave there homeland and come to Canada for allot of reasons some were because They were not allowed freedom of worship, The government had control over their way of life, Men were forced to serve in the army, and many more other reasons. Some people who came from Europe, there journey to Canada was very long The voyage across the Atlantic Ocean took them two weeks by steamship and even longer by sailing ships, and many passengers became seasick. Some immigrants from Quebec toke a train to get to western Canada and it toke them 4 to 6 days to get there and they were overcrowded and without heat. Can you believe it no heat? like i would die being in a crowded place when its freezing cold. It must have been really hard, good thing they made it through though. So thank you to the people back then who left there misfortune homelands and came to Canada if it wasn't from them Canada wouldn't be like how it is today with all theses wonderful cultures, beliefs, and religion.

Assignment #4 Linking :)

I read a lot of blogs that I liked, However one of my Favorite ones that i have read was
Ryleigh's blog I thought she wrote great thoughts about the future. I also liked Chongo's Blog she listed alot of things of what she thought Canada would look like in 2109, one of her thoughts were that robots may exist on earth, to take better care of humans, but would probably be worse for our environment which I thought was pretty interesting. Another blog i like was Sandra's Blog she talked about what she thought and about maybe there will not be a world in 2109 which I thought could be true.
